The Beauty of The Gospel

Mar 15, 2026    Minister Kelvin L. Briggs

This powerful message confronts a truth many of us hesitate to acknowledge: being a Christian is genuinely difficult. We're reminded through Matthew 7:13-14 that the gate leading to life is narrow and challenging, and few will find it. The sermon walks us through those uncomfortable moments when doing right feels impossible, when our flesh screams for satisfaction, when revenge seems justified, when dishonesty might benefit us, or when our desires overpower our willpower. We're challenged to examine those pet sins we've grown comfortable with, the areas where we grade ourselves on a curve instead of against God's perfect standard. The central revelation here is both sobering and liberating: we all fall short of God's righteousness. Every single one of us. Romans 5:12-19 presents the beautiful exchange at the heart of the gospel—what Adam's offense brought versus what Jesus' gift provides. Where Adam brought condemnation and death, Jesus offers righteousness and life. The transformative truth we must embrace is this: when following God becomes too hard, we must try Jesus. Not our own strength, not our good intentions, but the righteousness that comes only through Christ. This message calls us to stop giving ourselves passes, to recognize that even one sin separates us from God, and to understand that heaven is only accessible through receiving the righteousness of Jesus Christ through baptism into Him.
